In 1981, Rev. George E. Weaver, then pastor of New Mount Olive, invited Dr. Carter to become his co-pastor before passing the torch to him in November 1982. Under Carter's leadership the membership has grown to more than 10,000. He has established a television ministry that is broadcast nationally and internationally. He also created the Mount Olive Development Corporation (MODCO) which is a faith- based organization whose mission is to revitalize low and moderate income communities by providing strategic programs that promote economic development, create jobs and focus on strengthening families through Public Service, Affordable Housing, and Entrepreneurial Ventures.

Dr. Carter is recognized as one of the country's greatest Theologians. He has published four books and lectured extensively throughout his career as a spiritual leader. He believes that his pastoral mission is "to bring humankind in line with the kingdom of God" through loving God, loving people and practicing peace and patience.

Throughout Dr. Carter's career as a Theologian, Teacher and Pastor, he has stated that he "values relationships, thinks that people are important, and that people matter more than things." After each day's work, Dr. Carter maintains that he "never goes to bed without attempting to make a difference in somebody's life."

The New Mount Olive family is currently in the process of organizing an unforgettable fete themed "A Page in HIS-[S] TORY" for Dr. Carter and his devoted wife of 36 years, Patricia Thomas Carter. The evening of Friday October 2nd, will include tributes, special presentations and lots of song and celebration at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, FL.
